Health Information Week takes place every July and BHIP members take part in a variety of ways.

In July 2020 the themes for Health Information Week were:

  • Monday 6th July: Health literacy.
  • Tuesday 7th July: Mental Health.
  • Wednesday 8th July: Sepsis.
  • Thursday 9th July: Healthy lifestyles.
  • Friday 10th July: Mobile apps.
  • Saturday 11th July: Mythbusting Common Conditions.
  • Sunday 12th July: Wellbeing and mindfulness.

Bolton Libraries and Museum Services

  • Tweeted throughout the week to highlight the daily themes
  • Promoted health literacy and health information through our e-books and e-magazines offer via Facebook and Twitter.

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust Library Service

Staff based in the service used the themes for daily tweets and covered:

  • Day 1- Health Literacy – Impressions 1568; Total Engagements 62
  • Day 2- Mental Health – 3 tweets. Tweet 3 – Impressions 2300; Total engagements 71 plus reply from Headspace Help
  • Day 3- Sepsis – Impressions 1576; Total Engagements 70
  • Day 4- Healthy Lifestyles – 2 tweets. Tweet 1 – Impressions 1721; Total Engagement 84 plus like from Chief Executive of the Trust
  • Day 5- Apps – Impressions 1013; Total engagements 39.

We gained 3 new followers and were really pleased with the level of engagement with the tweets – it definitely makes a difference being part of a larger campaign.  Given that we were coping with a pandemic, social media was a great way to take part.

Join us at the Central Library for a week of events and activities providing information about health and wellbeing!

Tuesday 2nd July – Up Front

10.30am – 12pm Walk, Talk and Tea

Join Bolton Council’s Get Active team for a walk to celebrate Health Information Week. Meet in the foyer of Bolton Central Library just before 10.30am for a low-level walk of around 2 miles around the Town Centre, ending up in the Library for a well deserved brew. No need to book, just come along.

11am – 2pm Bolton NHS Primary Care Psychological Therapy Service

11am – 3pm Diabetes UK

11am – 3pm Travelling Happiness Bar

Come along to the Travelling Happiness Bar and explore the 5 Ways of Wellbeing and pick up information about activities to try in Bolton.

Wednesday 3rd July – The Fiction Area

1.30pm – 3pm Down Memory Lane Reminiscence Group

Do you or someone you know have dementia? Down Memory Lane is an Age UK group for people with early onset dementia and their carers. Come along for an informal chat, experience the reminiscence boxes, share memories and reminisce. Light refreshments provided. Meets monthly.

Thursday 4th July

10.30am – 3pm NHS Health Trainers

Want to become more active? Lose weight? Give up smoking? Chat to the Health Trainers about living a healthier life and get your blood pressure checked at the same time.

11am – 2pm Macmillan Cancer Support

11am – 2pm Menopause Meet Up

Pop along to discuss all things Menopause at our informal drop In Browse our book displays and enjoy a bit of pampering with the Bolton College Community Learning Ambassadors. Share top tips on how to keep happy and healthy over tea and cake and be creative at our arts and crafts table. All this and an opportunity to try Indian Dancing with Pranava Dance between 11.30am and 1.30pm.

Summer Celebration for #NHS70

As part of the #NHS70 celebrations Library staff at the Education Centre Library, Royal Bolton Hospital, displayed articles from journals published 70 years ago.

Our colleagues at Bolton Archives organised the following:

On Saturday 7 July there was a spectacular Summer Celebration at the Royal Bolton Hospital site.   The Education Centre Library was open, providing a nice quiet ‘chillaxing’ space for some mindful colouring activities. Bolton CVS also had a stall at the Summer Celebration.

 

Bolton Central Library

There was a range of health organisations at Bolton Central library during the week including Macmillan cancer support, NHS Health Trainers, Down Memory Lane – a new dementia group launch. Plus a Mindfulness workshop and The Travelling Happiness bar. 

Launch of a new Books on Prescription collection – Reading Well for Mental health

Reading Well for mental health, the new booklist provides advice, information and support for people living mental health needs and their carers. With titles covering self-help, psycho-education and memoirs on a range of common feelings and experiences including stress, depression, anxiety, sleep problems and low self-esteem.
