Funding applications and proposal writing: an introduction

Description:

This is a 2 day course which will take place on Tuesday 9 November 10.00-14.00) and Tuesday 23 November (10.00-14.00). By completing this booking form you are committing to attend both parts of the course.

In this session we will explore some key points you need to consider when approaching funders and writing/pitching to them. Layla Moosavi, DSC Associate trainer, will share good guidance and practice for writing funding proposals/ applications and take you (where feasible virtually) through some group exercises either in breakout rooms or all as a group to help you get your pitch right. There will also be some individual reflection and below are some things you can think about before the day to further help you with the session.

The two days will look at:

1) How to define funder priorities

2) Key information you need to collate for your proposals- how to be proposal ready

3) What is the difference between what trusts and foundations need and what corporate sponsors need in written applications?

4) What is a Case for Support and how do you use it in your proposals?

If you wish you may bring along your previous or pending applications as a point of reference for yourself

Things to think about before the session

Just think about them - you don’t need to go into detail…. we will discuss the process on the day and how we incorporate and use this information.

  • How many people do you directly help?
  • Does being local or national an advantage?
  • If you did not exist what would happen?
  • Useful statistics about the need and the problem? ( don’t worry too much about this but if there are any that stand out at this point
  • Is there a current gap you are trying to fill?
  • Are you a leader in your field?
  • What is your objective and why do you need the funding?
