Health Literacy Awareness Training

 Workshop purpose

This workshop will increase participants’ knowledge of what health literacy is, why it is important and how Library and Knowledge Service Teams can raise awareness of health literacy issues across the NHS.

During this session, participants will:

  • Increase their understanding of what health literacy is and how it might impact on everyday practice.
  • Increase their awareness of the impact of low health literacy on individuals’ everyday lives, and on the services that support them.
  • Understand what low health literacy looks and feels like.
  • Familiarise themselves with tools and techniques that they can use in practice.
  • Understand how effective health literacy approaches can support person centred care, positive behavioural / lifestyle changes, and enhance shared decision making.
  • Learn about best practice in health literacy development in NHS Library and Knowledge Services.

Who is it for?

This workshop is suitable for all staff working in library and knowledge services.

Duration

A 3-hour virtual training using Webex Training software. Each participant will need their own computer (not iPad or smart phone) and audio facility (phone or VOIP), a camera is useful but not essential.
