Supporting Researchers

Please note by booking onto this session you have committed to attending both sessions that make up this course and to completing the work from the flipped classrooms.

The flipped classrooms will be WC 23 May 2022 & WC 13 June 2022.

Taught session 1 will take place on Tuesday 7 June 2022  and Taught session 2 on Tuesday 21 June 2022.

This programme of training will combine asynchronous videos and activities with live webinars. It will explore the range of potential issues and services provided by library and knowledge services in support of the multiplicity of research needs.

Participants: Clinical/NHS/Outreach/Research library and knowledge services supporting staff engaged in research

Objectives:

  • To explore alternative modes of research support
  • To share best practice
  • To develop a plan to better support staff when returned to work

Teaching Mode:

  • Flipped classroom – Videos & pre-webinar activities
  • Facilitated webinars
  • Small group work in Microsoft Teams breakout rooms
  • Mentimeter polls
  • Micro-teaching

Pre-requisites: Participants will have access to Microsoft Teams and a microphone

  • Why is research important?
  • Identifying local R&D Lead & Services

Webinar 1 (Tues 7 June 2022 (AM 10.00 - 12.00)

  • Review flipped classroom activities
  • The 4-stage research lifecycle
  • KLS support at each stage of the research lifecycle
    • Scholarly communication, research data management, open access, disseminating research & metrics, and measuring impact
  • Case studies for each stage of the research lifecycle

Video & Flipped Classroom Activities 2 (week commencing 13 June 2022)

  • Your experience of research
  • LKS service currently provided to researchers
  • SMART objectives

Webinar 2 (Tues 21 June 2022 (AM 10.00 - 12.00)

  • Review flipped classroom activities
  • Building research confidence
  • Identifying LKS boundaries and when to refer onwards
  • Sharing local practice
  • Developing your LKS Research Support Plan
