Hi, I’m Daljit the new Information and eResources Officer at Hull University Teaching Hospitals. I am completely new to the NHS, Hull and the North. I am from Leicester and have over 6 years experience working in Academic Libraries and Archives. I completed my Library Traineeship with De Montfort University. I’m currently studying for my MA Librarianship at the University of Sheffield and hope to complete it this September. My dissertation focuses on creating a new methodology to critically analyse academic library shelves. After which I will start my chartership.
Like most people I accidentlly fell into Libraries, I studied Ancient History and Archaeology at the University of Leicester and had aspirations to be a Maths teacher. A chance to work as a Library assistant for a few weeks at my old Sixth form in Leicester came up and I have never looked back. I enjoy learning something new every day and helping people. Although, I have many transferable skills from my previous work experience it’s also exciting to be starting again, learning new classification systems, literature searching as opposed to my research repository experience. Collaboratively teaching and demonstrating to professionals as opposed to university students and readers at an archive.
As I’m new to the North I am currently just exploring and trying to find a hot yoga studio. In my spare time I like to read, watch too much TV and cook. I feel very blessed to be living in such a beautiful part of the UK. I grew up in the inner city of Leicester and lived in London. I had never seen so many blossom trees! But alas I must finally learn how to drive.
The staff at Hull University Teaching Hospitals have made me feel so welcome. Library staff are always such warm, welcoming people and our small team is kinder and more helpful than I could have imagined. It genuinely is lovely to be part of something as special as the NHS.
