Training Course Reflection: Supporting Researchers
The ‘Supporting Researchers’ course was organised and funded by Health Education England and run by Dr Maria Grant and Lisa Jeskins. The course ran over 4 weeks and there were several cohorts you could join. My cohort ran from 24th October – 15th November 2022. The first week we were asked to take part in a flipped classroom, which was followed-up in the second week by a webinar on Microsoft Teams. This format was repeated in weeks 3 and 4. The first part focused on taking stock of the things that our library service already does to support researchers, while the second part helped us to take a step back in order to work out how to pull our support offer into a coherent strategy, underpinned by SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timebound) objectives and aligned with our library’s and organisation’s strategies. There were plenty of opportunities for us to share ideas and to practise writing SMART objectives.…

The impact of library news during the COVID-19 pandemic
Prior to the pandemic the library at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust produced a monthly newsletter of about four pages with information on library resources, outreach and staff news. The newsletter goes out to several hundred staff; recipients generally sign up to receive it when they join the library. Once we entered the first lockdown the library staff were working from home and it was decided the library news should be fortnightly to keep users informed about the latest service developments. We had been taking it in turns to edit the newsletter but I volunteered to become the sole editor.…
Adapting to virtual delivery - training course report
As so often in life, timing is everything. In this case, I had spent hours trying to adapt the training course that I deliver together with a colleague to online delivery and I had become really stuck. So the advert for the ‘Adapting to virtual delivery’ course run by the Leeds Health and Care Academy in my emails couldn’t have come at a better time!
