We hosted a World Book Day event on Thursday 7 March 2019 where Barnsley Hospital consultant Rheumatologist Dr Ade Adebajo discussed the recently published 5th edition of his book ‘ABC of Rheumatology’. The event was well attended by staff and medical students.

Daniel Froste, Library Lead, won the outstanding achievement (non-clinical) award at the annual Barnsley Hospital Heart awards in May.

August 2019 saw the launch of 24/7 library opening thanks to HCLU funding. The project included installation of CCTV and health and safety adjustments to the centre. Initial impact assessment would suggest good usage of the library out of staffed hours.

They Library Lead has been part of a new guidelines steering group. Members of staff wanting to write new or updated guidelines now have to request a literature search as a mandatory element of the process.

The library service has continued to work on knowledge management provision. Knowledge Harvesting activities and Randomised Coffee Trials have continued to prove popular. 2019 has also seen the introduction of ‘Human Library’ sessions and the facilitation of the Evidence and Knowledge Self-Assessment Tool with teams.

Autumn 2019 saw the launch of two new CPD opportunities for Barnsley Hospital staff- a journal club for medical staff and a reflective reading club for nursing/midwifery staff.

In 2020, the service aims to develop its patient/public information offer.
